MATHISON: Gladys Hazel Mathison nee Catherwood of Onanole, MB, passed away peacefully in the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB on August 21, 2009. Gladys was born in Birtle, MB on October 5, 1940 to parents Howard and Hazel Catherwood. Gladys attended school in the Solsgirth area and completed her Teacher’s Training at Brandon College. She then taught grade two in Hamiota, MB for 11 years. She married Gerald Mathison in 1966 and finished teaching in 1971 in order to stay at home with her family and support Gerald on the farm. After Gerald’s passing in 1985 she found healing and enjoyment in her new job as the librarian in Hamiota. She made going to the library an adventure for local readers for 19 years. She was also a strong member of the United Church and community. Gladys then met and married Barry Angus and moved to their beautiful retirement home at Onanole, MB. They enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Keith in 1970, father Howard in 1980, husband Gerald in 1985 and mother Hazel in 2001. Gladys will be forever remembered and missed by her husband Barry, son Kevin (Jackie) and grandson Justin, daughter Kim (Doug Asselstine), grandchildren Gerry Asselstine and Candace (Brian) Ford, step-son Kerry, grandchildren Connor and Shannon and step-son Jayson Angus, grandchildren Jayden and Morgan. A celebration of her life was held August 29, 2009 at the United Church in Hamiota, MB followed by interment at the Hamiota Cemetery. Pastor Elwood Fawcett officiated, organist was Agnes Bridge. Donations may be made in Gladys’ memory to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, 304-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4C6 or to a charity of your choice.Messages of condolence can be sent to Gladys’ family at campbellfuneralhome.caCampbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
