PARKER: Joan-Marie Parker (nee Birks), August 20, 1918 – September 2, 2009. Passed away at Peace Arch Hospital at age 91 surrounded by her family. Born in Surrey, England, Joan immigrated to Canada at age 11 with her brothers Robert, John and sister, Marguerite, all of which have predeceased her. Living in Brandon, she was also predeceased by her husband Thomas Benjamin in 1966. She was the first woman President of the Brandon Real Estate Board, earned the “Woman of Distinction” award for women in Business in Brandon and District, served on the Manitoba Real Estate Association Board, and established Joan Parker Realty in Brandon. At age 70, she retired to White Rock and became an active artist, becoming the President of the White Rock and South Surrey Art Society for 7 years. Her friends, family, dogs and garden were her life. She is survived by her three sons, Allan and his wife Esther of Kelowna, and their daughter Lisa and her husband David, and great grandson, Marcus of Langley; Kenneth and his wife Jill and daughters Meagan and Brittany of Surrey; Donald and his wife Colleen living in the family home in Brandon. The service is to be held at Victory Memorial Gardens in White Rock on September 9th at 3:30 p.m. Following the service a Celebration of Life will be held at her home, 1051, 165 St., White Rock. Interment to follow in Abbotsford on Thursday. “She will be greatly missed by us all”
