BAYES: Mary Bayes (Stachowich). It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Bayes on Friday, September 4, 2009, at the Valley View Care Centre with her family by her side. Mary was born on February 2, 1922 to Katherine and Helko(Alex) Stachowich. Mary grew up during hard times on a prairie farm, learning many household jobs which came in handy when she married and became the housewife of Levi Bayes in 1953. Mary, Levi, and five children lived and worked on the family farm north of Rapid City for many years before retiring to Minnedosa. During time on the farm, Marys children always had the luxury of fresh breads, jams, pies, pickles, perogies and anything that could be canned by her. During retirement years Mary and Levi took joy in travelling to many places in the world including Mexico, Bangkok, Hawaii and much of the United States. Her true love was their yearly trip to Weslaco, Texas, where she spent most of the winter months. Mary also enjoyed her involvement with the Rebekahs Lodge and being a long standing member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In her years Mary was unbeatable at cribbage, skipbo, and many other card games. She also loved curling and bowling with family and friends. Mary will be forever remembered, and her love and devotion to all of her family will never be forgotten. Mary was predeceased by her parents, husband Levi, sister Ann, brother Fred, son Jim McGinn and daughter-in-law Mae McGinn. Marys memory will live on with her children; Margarette (Bill) Hocking, Brian (Joanne) McGinn, Linda Cameron, and Barbie (Allan) Hales; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother Mike (Rose) Stachowich, brothers in law Fred Bayes, Art (Helen) Bayes, Cecil Bayes, Ernie (Doris) Bayes, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services to honor Marys memory will be held at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 142 4th Street NW, Minnedosa, Manitoba on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at the Minnedosa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #138, Minnedosa, Manitoba.
