BASARABA: Lawrence Orest Basaraba passed away at his residence on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the age of 69 years. Lawrence was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba on June 9, 1940. He successfully completed trade school in autobody which led to his lifetime trade. Lawrence married Livia Kornyk in September 1962 and resided in Dauphin, later moving to Mississauga where he worked for the Ford Factory. He was employed as a Bodyman in Thunder Bay and spent several hours of overtime working in his garage to raise his family. Thirteen years later, he moved to Brandon where he continued his trade until his retirement. Within the years, he still had time to own a car lot, “Heritage Motors.” Lawrence enjoyed cars, playing the guitar and listening to Ukrainian music. He enjoyed weekend hockey tournaments with his boys and was very devoted to his family and grandchildren. Lawrence is survived by his wife Livia, sons Arnold, Ronald, Wayne and Rick, nine grandchildren and sister Stella Yoannidis. He was predeceased by his parents Mike and Sophie Basaraba, three brothers and four sisters. A Memorial Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB at a later date.
