CARTON (Stroh): Barbara, at the age of 85 years, beloved wife of the late Byron Carton, mother of Ken and Dianne, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Friday, September 4, 2009. Barb was born on February 8, 1924 in Vibank, Saskatchewan. She had seven brothers and two sisters. Barbara married Byron Carton on June 1, 1946 in Regina, Saskatchewan. The family moved around a lot as Dad was in the Armed Forces. They resided in various locations in Canada and spent five years in Germany prior to coming to Brandon in 1960. Mom loved music, dancing, cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, and entertaining everyone with her unique yodeling. Mom especially loved spending time at the cabin in Clear Lake with Dad. Barb was predeceased by her husband Byron in 1976, brothers Pius (Emma), Andrew (Ethel), Leo (Helen) and sister Sally (Tracey). Mom will be lovingly missed by her family: son Ken Carton and his wife Valerie of Brandon, their children Kristy Liston (Kacey) and the great-grandsons Aiden and Parker of Minot, ND, Kolby Carton (Pam) of Brandon; daughter Dianne Labay and her husband Wayne of Brandon, their children Cori Labay (Mark) of Brandon, Stacie Labay (Hatem) and great-?granddaughter Mackenzie of Brandon, and Whitney Labay (Jesse) of Brandon. Mom is also remembered by her sister Rose (Pete), and brothers Bill (Hilda), Wendel (Leona), Len (Dianne), and Bert (Jeanne). A private family graveside service was held September 11, 2009 with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for the excellent care that Barb received as a resident there.
