EWEN: Margaret Johnann Ewen passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence, Fairview Home, on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Margaret was born in Elgin, Manitoba on May 30, 1911 to Arthur and Mary Biggins. She graduated from High School in Elgin and then continued her education at Success Business College in Winnipeg. Over her working years, Margaret worked at the Post Office in Elgin, the Commerce Bank in Canora, Saskatchewan during World War II. She then worked in the Post Office and the CIBC in Elgin, retiring from the CIBC in 1976. Margaret moved to Brandon in 1979. She was a member of the United Church, UCW, Legion Auxiliary and volunteered extensively in her community. Margaret loved spending time with her family, their babies and visiting with her friends. She was interested in reading, dogs and travel. Margaret enjoyed several trips after herretirement. She is survived by her sons: Gary (Audrey) and Grant (Cathy). There are four grandchildren: Lara, Dallas (Pam), Richard (Candice), David (Heather) and three great grandchildren; Gavin, Autumn and Ryland. She isalso survived by her sister-in-law Lorraine Biggins and several cousins and great nieces and nephews. Margaret will also be missed by her long time friend Nell Dawe of Brandon. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her stepmother Anne Biggins, brothers; Jack, Art and Bill Biggins. A graveside ceremony was held at the Elgin Cemetery on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Harvey Hurren officiated. Pallbearers were her sons and grandsons as well as family friend, Dan Krause. Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Elgin United Church, Elgin, Manitoba R0K 0T0 or to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 7M6. The family would like to thank Rev. Harvey Hurren, Fairview Home Staff, Elgin UCW for the lunch after the service and Memories Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
