PLOWMAN: Daye Plowman (nee Letley) was released from her earthly body on September 25, 2009. Daye was born November 20, 1921 in Rochester, England to Jesse and Edith, a sister for Joan. She joined the war effort as a young woman, working as an ARP Nurse and also in the Airplane Factory. She married Arthur Benjamin Plowman in Gravesend, England on September 4, 1943. She immigrated to Canada on the Aquitania as many other War Brides did, arriving at Pier 21. She settled at the Plowman home in Douglas, Manitoba and had many stories to tell about a “city” girl learning the ropes of rural life. She was very grateful to have good neighbours who not only welcomed her, but embraced her as a part of their lives. Her ready smile and down to earth manner endeared her to those who met her. Daye worked many years at the general store in Douglas, as well as in CFB Shilo. Daye will be remembered for her lovely gardens, good cooking, knitting and friendly nature. Once the nest was empty, one of Daye’s favourite past times was reconnecting with other “war brides”. She was predeceased by her loving husband Ben, as well as her only sister. She leaves to mourn her sons: Roger (Darlene, nee Briggs) and Larry (Greta, nee Hooke) and grandchildren Mark (Shannon), Laura (Blair) Hordeski, Kurt, and Kristi (Robert) Penney, great-grandchildren Jonah and Joss Hordeski and Mackenzie and Cole Plowman. The ceremony to celebrate Daye’s life will take place Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, with Reverend Barb Jardine officiating. A private interment will take place at Madford Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Daye may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 1-613-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G6 or to a charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
