NADLER: Peter Francis, May 1, 1921- September 16, 2009. Peter Nadler passed away peacefully in the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario with family by his side on Wed., Sept. 16, 2009. Peter will be remembered lovingly by his family, wife Myrtle, son Mark (Lynn), daughters Marie (Harris) Popplewell and Kathleen (David Schmidt), son- in-law Patrick Voullaire, grandchildren Jennifer, Peter, Brett, Kyle and Desmond, great grandchildren Luke and Alice. In addition, he will be missed by his extended family abroad and his friends made over a lifetime. Peter is predeceased by his beloved daughter Patricia, his parents Peter and Catherine and his brother, John. Peter was born in Argentina. He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 4 and settled in the Brandon Hills of Manitoba. He attended country schools as well as Brandon Collegiate. At the age of 20, he travelled to the west coast to work in the Vancouver area on a dairy farm for one winter. Missing the prairies, he returned to Brandon and married the love of his life, Myrtle Dixon, in 1944. Peter worked at the Brandon Oil Refinery until his fathers death in 1946 when he changed careers to run the family farm until his retirement in the 1980s. After retirement, Peter and Myrtle relocated to Ottawa to be closer to family. Peter loved music and learned to play cello as an adult. He transferred his love of music to his children and all four enjoyed performing music with him in a family ensemble at many public venues in the Brandon area in the 1960s. His love of learning inspired him to enroll in Brandon University in the 1970`s to pursue further education. He also enjoyed square dancing, carpentry, writing and horticulture. He won the Armco Canada Ltd. Award in 1984 for the `best home grounds` in the R.M. of Cornwallis. In Peter`s memory, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Monica Church, Ottawa on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. A reception for family and friends followed at Barrhaven Manor where Peter and Myrtle, his wife of 65 years, have lived for the past three years. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Alzheimers Association or to a charity of choice.
