DENOON: It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Graham Denoon announce his peaceful passing on September 29, 2009 at Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon at the age of 93, his loving wife and family at his side. Vern lived a full and happy life. He was born June 8, 1916 on the family farm near Eden, Manitoba to Donald and May Denoon. He was raised on the farm with his three brothers and two sisters. Vern enjoyed farm life, working the land and his team of horses. His father taught him to love nature and bountiful gardens. Vern often walked the five miles to school and to play baseball. He enjoyed hunting with his father, son and many close family friends. Vern's greatest love was his wife of 69 years, Irene; childhood friends who created a special love and a bond that will never be broken. They married on July 14, 1940 at the Chapel in Clear Lake. Vern and Irene were always together, standing side by side with sincere devotion. They had a lot of good times and memories over their seven year courtship and 69 year marriage! Building their home and family in Onanole and living there until moving to Brandon a few years ago. Vern was a kind, gentle man who always found the good in everyone. He had a very keen sense of humor and he liked to tease - he had a great laugh and he loved to share it! The welcome mat was always out. Vern and Irene loved playing cards and especially camping and fishing together, fishing at Clear Lake and Lake Audy and spending summer vacations at Reed Lake and Assissippi. He shared his love of fishing and nature with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Vern started working for RMNP in 1945, retiring in 1978. He was recognized for his years of service at the Grand Opening of the new pier at Clear Lake and at the 75th Anniversary Celebration. Vern proudly built and maintained many of the roads within the Park before moving into the Sign Shop in 1966. He became known for his steady hand and fine workmanship. His signs graced many driveways across Canada. Vern loved working with wood and created many beautiful tables, clocks and special gifts for his family and friends. Vern could also fix or build almost anything. Vern was predeceased by his parents, Donald and May, brothers Norman, Doug, and Bill, son-in-law Frank Ruml, great grandson baby Frank Ruml, as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted and loving wife Irene, son Jim (June), daughters Joyce Denoon and Joanne (Ken) Dodman, grandchildren Bev, Mark (Pamela) and Vern Ruml and Cherie Bailey (Denoon), great- grandchildren Dustin and Mitch Ruml, Jordan and Nikki Bailey, Nina Ruml and great-great grandchildren Eris & Dante Ruml, his sisters Elsie (Kelly) Bell, and Lorna Woods as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial service and interment will take place at a later date. The family would also like to thank 3rd Floor and all of the Valleyview staff for their care and compassion shown Dad.
