MacGREGOR: Margaret Lyon Urquhart was born at Cawdor, Scotland on June 19, 1918. She emigrated to Canada with her parents, Joseph and Jessie, after the war in 1919. Her parents farmed west of Belmont and Margaret and her siblings attended Pelican Lake School. Upon completion of her education she was employed at Ninette sanatorium. On November 17, 1941 she married the love of her life, Thomas MacGregor. The wedding took place at the Urquhart family farm on SE 1/4 of section 10-6-16. Tom and Margaret farmed several miles east of Ninette. Margaret was responsible for a large part of the farm work while Tom worked at the Ninette Sanatorium as well. They had six children. This included two sets of twins. Margaret worked very hard to nurture her family sometimes neglecting her own needs for them. In 1969 Margaret took a position for several years as House Mother at Pembina House helping young aboriginal women. Tom and Margaret built a house at Ninette and in 1974 they retired there. After Tom's death in 1985 Margaret sold the house and moved to Killarney. Later she took up residence at Belcrest Manor in Belmont to be closer to her family. Eventually she moved to Baldur Care Home. Margaret passed away on October 2, 2009 at Baldur Care Home at the age of Ninety-one. She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Sheila (Brian) Trotter, Margaret (Fred) Jewsbury, Ian (Donna) MacGregor, Jessie (Dennis) Myers, Duncan (Joyce) MacGregor, and Donald (Yvonne) MacGregor. Also left to mourn are 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a brother, John (Barb) Urquhart of Chilliwack, B.C. and sister Helen Sharp of Killarney. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Tom and brothers Andrew, James and Joseph in infancy. The funeral service was held on October 6, 2009. Elizabeth Goodman officiated and Marianne Olfrey was pianist. A combined choir from Belmont, Ninette, and Killarney led the hymns. Pallbearers were: grandsons Patrick Trotter, Glenn Jewsbury, Ryan MacGregor, Clint MacGregor, Andrew MacGregor and nephew, Gordon Urquhart.Following the interment at Ninette Cemetery a lunch was served at the Ninette Centennial Hall. We received a note from one of Mom's long time friends that she wrote with Mom in mind. We found it to be very fitting: "Does the world get a little darker every time a loved one dies? If so, maybe heaven gets a little brighter."
