FUHR: Roland John Fuhr, beloved husband to the late Mrs. Blanche Fuhr, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon on his 81st birthday. Roland was born on October 13, 1928 to parents Waldemar and Emily Fuhr in Rhein, Saskatchewan. He was working at the family cafe in Lestock, Saskatchewan when he met Blanche, and the two were soon married. The couple welcomed son Ron into the world in 1952 and he was joined by Rick in 1954 and Lynda in 1956. The family settled in Kemnay where Blanche taught school and Roland worked in the Stores Department at CFB Shilo. He later moved up to become an Accountant in Shilo and happily retired with Blanche in 1986. Through the years, Roland took care in adding to the family home in Kemnay, and he would live there for the remainder of his life. Roland had many memories of his vacations to the West Coast and would fondly recall the time he spent there with his family. He enjoyed spending his retirement with the love of his life, until Blanche's death in 2003. Roland is survived by his brothers Bill and Art (Helen), and his sisters Rosemary (John), Joan (Gordon), Margaret-Anne (Larry) and many nieces and nephews. Roland also leaves behind his children: Ron (Darlene) of Victoria, BC, Rick of Brandon, and Lynda of Winnipeg. He will also be greatly missed by grandchildren Lindsay, Kelly, and Kyle. Roland was predeceased by his parents, brother Victor, and wife Blanche. Funeral services will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday October 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Alexander Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-824-18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 5B7.
