GRASBY: Melvin Robert Grasby. On Sunday, October 11, 2009, Melvin passed away quietly in his sleep at the Assiniboine Centre with his family at his side. He was 76. He had fought a long hard battle with C.O.P.D. Melvin was born on the family farm at Lornedale, Manitoba in July 1933. Melvin was the eldest son of Aaron Grasby and Eva (Giles) Grasby. When Melvin was five years old his father passed away in 1938. His mother and the four children moved off the farm to Cordova where Melvin and sister Gwen took Grade 1 and 2. Then the family moved to Moorepark where Melvin took Grade 3 to 11. In 1952 Melvin started working for the C.N.R. in Brandon, until 1991 when he retired after 40 years. In 1960 Melvin married Carmin Henry of Oak River, in the United Church. We lived in the old house at Moorepark for four years until Melvin built a new house on the same property. We continued to live there until 2002 when we moved to Brandon because of Melvin's health. Melvin was a self taught carpenter, plumber and electrician. No need to call in tradesmen when building the house. During all the years at Moorepark, Melvin had a great passion for birds, flower, spruce trees and nature especially. As a young person Melvin enjoyed baseball and hockey. From the time we got married until he passed away his greatest love was for his wife Carmin of 49 years, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Melvin was predeceased by his parents Aaron and Eva and two sisters Gwen and Barbara. He is survived by his wife Carmin, daughter Barbara and sons Daniel, Robert and Jason Lippett. Son Aaron and Teresa, and family Christina, Nickolas and Carolyn. Son Travis and Anita, and family Jeremy, Zachary and Jordan. Brother Delbert and Ruth and family Debbie, Richard, Douglas, Harry, (who passed away some time ago) and Delbert. Sister Joyce Gardiner, also many nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law Karen Greer and brother-in-law Niel and wife Lynda. Memorial services were held in Minnedosa at the Funeral Chapel on October 16, 2009. Interment was at Moorepark Cemetery.
