LEARMONTH: John Reid Learmonth of Brandon, formerly of Medora, Manitoba passed away at his residence, Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, on Sunday, October 25, 2009. His death occurred on the day that would have been his and Dorothy's 59th Wedding Anniversary and one hour before the time they were married. John was born July 24, 1923 at Medora, Manitoba and lived in Medora until moving to the farm with his parents in 1935. In 1950, he took over the land from his Dad and at this time he married Dorothy and they continued to farm until 1984. They moved to Brandon and lived in the custombuilt home that was especially designed for Dorothy. This is where John lived until being admitted to the hospital on March 9, 2009. John loved people, music and socializing. John spent his life farming but he was also a mechanic, carpenter, tradesmen and a faithful committed husband and father. He is survived by his daughters: Donna (Ben) Harper, Barbara (Sandy) Bruce and Beverly (Doug) Walker. There are five grandchildren and one great grandchild. John was predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 1986, mother and father William Reid and Jane Learmonth, brothers Wilfred "Scotty", Marcus "Mike" and Ralph. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, October 31, 2009. Rev. Glen Whetter officiated. Pallbearers were Tyler Harper, Andrew and Aaron Bruce, Dave Reid, Ben Harper and Doug Walker. A Graveside Service followed at the Medora Cemetery, Medora, Manitoba. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Unit 203 - 1570 - 18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 5C5 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 0V9. Special thanks to the staff on the 4th floor of the Assiniboine Centre and to the staff on the 2nd floor ofHillcrest Place for the care they gave Dad these last months.
