DANE: Lionel Edward. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lionel at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB on November 4, 2009. Lionel was born at Fairfax, MB on December 8, 1932 to William and May Dane, he was the youngest of nine: Eunice, Leonard, Lawrence, Catherine, George, Allen, Ileen, Keith, Lionel. Lionel grew up in Souris, Manitoba. After graduating from Souris Collegiate he went to work at the Land Titles office in Boissevain, Manitoba. It was here that he met and married the “Love of his Life”, Edith Dougall on September 22, 1953. Together they had four children Wes (Kerry) Dane of Brandon, Manitoba; Trudy (John) Dempsey of Lethbridge, Alberta; Sandra (Gary) Keeble of Brandon, MB; Dennis (Katherine) Dane of Winnipeg, Manitoba. They also had nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. There are numerous nieces and nephews that over the years enjoyed visits with Uncle Lionel and Aunt Edith. He had many brother and sister-in-laws who were thought of as siblings. Over the years Lionel and Edith lived in Langruth, Hartney, Souris and retired to Brandon to be closer to family. Lionel worked 30 years in Souris as the Secretary Treasurer of the town and municipality. His strong work ethic and quiet demeanor were qualities that everyone admired in him. Community and family were very important to Lionel. He was a member of the Elks and was a strong supporter of community businesses. After retirement he enjoyed winters in Texas with Edith. Woodworking and carving were two of his passions that he excelled at. Card games with friends and family were always looked forward to. His great sense of humor and wit were enjoyed by all who knew him. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, Souris, Manitoba, November 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Private internment in the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery. In memory of Lionel donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home, Souris in care of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be made at dkowalchuk@mts.net
