PATTON: Robert Hugh. On November 5, 2009 at 10:20 p.m., Robert Hugh Patton passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Hugh was born in Brandon, Manitoba and raised in Margaret, Manitoba on the Patton family farm. He attended Boissevain Collegiate Institute in his early years, where he met his future wife, Maxine, and then attended college for architectural drafting. Hugh moved to Regina to pursue a career at the Hudson Bay Company where he was joined by Maxine after their marriage in the summer of 1969. In 1971, they moved to Winnipeg where Hugh took a position with Hickory Farms and Sears in the Polo Park Mall. They stayed there for three years until his love of the land lead them to carry on the family tradition of farming in Margaret. They then moved to Brandon where Hugh began a long and successful career in sales with Beaver Lumber, Home Hardware, and Rona. Over the years, Hugh came to know many of his customers as friends and took great pleasure in his job. He was passionate about his knowledge of wood-burning stoves and all areas of construction and woodworking, sharing his expertise with everyone and anyone that required his help. Hugh was an avid golfer and sportsman who enjoyed all manner of outdoor activities including archery, canoeing, boating, pistol and trap shooting. He was a builder by nature andspent hours building and crafting for his home and was skilled in woodworking and construction. Hugh loved to read (a passion that he passed on to his children), and spending time with his family and friends who he held very dear. He also had a great love of animals of every kind, from the birds and squirrels that frequented their cabin to his dog Brandy who was his devoted companion and friend for fourteen years. He loved to spend time at the cabin that he and his wife built together from start to finish and was their escape from the bustle of city life. One of Hugh's greatest prides were his children whom he loved dearly taking pleasure in watching them grow into individuals with their own lives and families. He provided excellent educations for both and was always there to lend a hand when needed. Hugh was pre-deceased by his parents Mae and Ted Patton, and is survived by his wife, Maxine, his son Greg (wife Lisa), and daughter Angela (husband Ja-On, son Soulin). He will be dearly missed and remembered forever. Hugh's funeral was held at Memories Chapel on November 10, 2009 and was attended by his family and friends. Honorary pallbearers were: Bill Morrow, Gord Taylor, Jason Kusnick, Bill Romanyszyn, Doug Burba and Kevin Deg. Memorial donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R7B 0V9. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
