SOWTIS (nee Boulton): Violet Lillian, passed away at the age of 91 on November 22, 2009 at Lady Minto Hospital Extended Care, Salt Spring Island, B.C. Born in 1918, Violet grew up on her family’s farm near Reston, Manitoba. She attended school at Kinloss and Reston. Those years were some of the happiest of her life. Toward the end she would often ask if there was any news from “home”, referring to her Manitoba roots. Violet also lived in Winnipeg, God’s Lake and then Brandon, Manitoba after she was married. Violet was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Edward, on November 19, 2006. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 1942. Violet and Joe lived in Victoria during WW 11 and returned there in 1987 for their retirement years. Violet was a devoted wife and mother and her family always came first. She took great pride in her children and kept an orderly household. She did beautiful needlepoint and always offered a helping hand to friends and extended family when needed. Over the years she purposefully kept in touch with all her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and their families as well as many friends. She always sent a card or letter, often with gifts, for birthdays and other events or just to say hello. She will be missed by many. Violet is survived by her daughter, Sharon Farquharson, Salt Spring Island, B.C.; son, Robert Sowtis, Calgary, Alberta; grandsons Craig Farquharson and Ryan Sowtis; granddaughters Heather Farquharson and Jennifer Sowtis; great granddaughters Hannah and Katie Durst and a soon to arrive great grandson, Conner Farquharson.
