KEELER: Lorne Hugh Keeler. On Tuesday, November 24, 2009, Lorne peacefully passed away at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon at the age of 102. Lorne was predeceased by his wife Aileen and infant daughter Janice Mary. He is survived by son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Debbie, grandsons Bradley and James, sister Doris Veit of Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews and their families. On October 16, 1907, Lorne and identical twin Cecil were born on the family farm near Lauder, Manitoba, the second oldest of ten children. He attended school in Truro and Melgund up to grade 8, and later took some agricultural classes at the U of M. He married Aileen Robbins on November 15, 1944 and together they farmed the original homestead raising crops, a variety of stock, and chickens. They retired to Brandon on 1981, living on Silver Birch until 1999, when they moved to Lions Manor. Dad was very musical. As a youngster he played saxophone in the Keeler family band, and formed a barber shop quartette with brothers Ralph, Cecil and Arthur. He sang in the church choirs in Melgund and Brandon, and was very active in the choirs of Lions Manor. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, playing cards and teaching his grandsons to play pool. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment. A memorial service will be held in Brandon on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, with a reception to follow at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, at 1:30 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren Bradley and James, Robert, Bryan, Keri-lynne and Kenneth Keeler.
