BUCHANAN: Gladys Caroline Buchanan of Brandon passed away at her residence at Fairview Personal Care Home with her daughter at her side on November 22, 2009, two days shy of her 95th birthday. Mom was born at Rathwell, Manitoba on November 24, 1914 to George and Clara Smith. She leaves to mourn her passing her son George (Valerie) of Stonewall, daughter Carolyn Hanna (Greydon) of Brandon and four grandchildren, Mike Hanna (Erin) of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., Kelly Boechler (Bryan) of Calgary, Nancy and Chad Buchanan (Shellen) of Stonewall; also three great grandchildren Brittany, Hannah and Joshua, two sisters Doris Harvey of Kelowna, Ina Parker of St. Claude and one brother Lawrence of Port Coquitlam, B.C. Mom grew up in Rathwell where she met her husband Duncan. They lived there until his retirement from UGG elevator and moved to Winnipeg for a short time before settling in Glenboro for many years. After Dad's passing, Mom moved to Brandon to be near her daughter and lived at the Lions Manor where she enjoyed many happy years until ill health forced her to move to Fairview. Mom loved her vegetable garden, doing jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles. She was always active in her church and choir. At Fairview, she enjoyed as many activities as health would allow, especially the bingo, teas and chatting with all the good friends she met there. She was predeceased by her husband Duncan in 1988, grandson Kenneth Hanna in 1976, sister Mary and brother Albert. A graveside service was held at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Headingley, Manitoba where she was laid to rest beside her husband, Duncan.
