McMILLAN: Margaret Isabelle McMillan, (October 5, 1921 – November 27, 2009). It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Margaret Isabelle McMillan (Milne) of Waskada at the age of 88 - our dear Mom, Grandma, friend and neighbor Margaret was born at Carlyle, Saskatchewan on October 5, 1921. She came to work in Manitoba and it was there that she met Don McMillan. They married in March 7, 1946 and lived on the McMillan home farm for over 40 years. They raised three children and after Don’s death in 1987 she remained on the farm, which she loved, until moving into Waskada in 2000. Strong, independent and full of energy – that was Marg! She touched the lives of many, young and old alike. She will be well remembered for her love and dedication to her family and friends. A real passion for Margaret was curling. She played and skipped for years right up to the “Silver Bells” and the “Golden Gals” bonspiels. She loved attending curling events. She and her sister, Jean, went to many national and international bonspiels (Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden) and were known as the “Mad Hatters” as they always carried an extra suitcase full of outrageous hats. A different set of hats for each draw. She was always up for a game of euchre, canasta, “Phase 10” or dominoes and was known for playing cards well into the night. This time for friendship and family fun were very dear to her. Gathering with friends and sharing stories and laughs kept her so “young at heart”. Margaret showed her love to all through her wonderful cooking, quilting, and knitting. Everyone loved Grandma’s buns, butter tarts, yo-yo cookies, shortbread, sour cream pies, homemade soups and stews. You could be sure that all the favorites were ready for serving when family and friends came home for visits. Each grandchild recently received an afghan lovingly knitted by Grandma. Her quilting skills were superb and she enjoyed the weekly fellowship with her Waskada Quilters. One of her greatest enjoyments was reading the local history books – knowing where people lived and their family connections. She could recall details and events without fail. She always took such an interest in her community which is shown in the many scrapbooks carefully clipped and assembled of events and celebrations in the area. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Don in 1987. She will be lovingly missed by Donna and Doug Adams (Salmon Arm), Murray and Gloria McMillan(Brandon), Bryce and Lorna McMillan (Carmel, Indiana) Much loved grandmother of Angie (Bermuda), Brad and Luda (Russia), Steve (Brandon), Jana and Jason (Calgary), Dan (Brandon), Triston (Tokyo), Curtis (Waskada) and Michael (Winnipeg). A funeral Service was held on Friday, December 4th at the United Church in Waskada. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Waskada Cemetery Fund, the Waskada United Church or the charity of choice.
