NICOL: The death of Wilma M. Nicol, age 94 years, widow of Ernest Nicol and beloved mother of Lynne, Glen and Terry, occurred at her residence, Fairview Home on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Wilma was born in Brandon on January 10, 1915 to Scottish parents, James and Helen Mitchell. As a young child she lived in Brandon, Ile des Chenes and Greenway, Manitoba. She attended public school in Greenway and high school at Baldur. Wilma trained as a registered nurse at Brandon General Hospital graduating in 1937. She worked at the hospital until her marriage in 1943. Wilma was a member of the Brandon Hills Busy Bees and a lifetime member of the United Church Women. She enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting, sewing, and travelling. Her great interests were with the church and community events, but especially her family and friends. Wilma was predeceased by her parents: James and Helen Mitchell; husband Ernest Nicol; sisters-in-law Edith (Clare) Ruckle, Doris (Ken) Bracken, and Jean Nicol; brothers-in-law: Preston (Jessie) Nicol, Bruce Nicol, Laurence Nicol and Scotty Armit. Wilma will be terribly missed by her daughter Lynne (James) McClelland; sons Glen (Karen) Nicol, and Terry (Heather) Nicol; grandchildren: Cyndi (Travis) Byrd, Kurt (Kerri) Nicol, Kevin (Kathy) Nicol; great-grandchildren: Kailey and Trace Byrd, Shelayne Bloomer, and Evan Nicol. She is also survived by her sister June Armit of White Rock, B.C.; sisters-in-law: Violet and Joan Nicol and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The Ceremony to Celebrate Wilma's Life was held at Memories Chapel, on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Mona Franklin officiated. A private family interment was held at the Brandon Hills Cemetery prior to the ceremony. Urn bearers were Cyndi Byrd, Kurt Nicol, and Kevin Nicol. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Wilma to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice.
