OSTASH: Jean Ostash of Brandon passed away peacefully at her residence, Valleyview Care Centre, on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Jean was born in Poland on January 23, 1921 and she immigrated to Canada in 1929. She was a proud mother of ten children and when time permitted, she enjoyed embroidery, Bingo and playing cards. Jean was predeceased by her son Don, son-in-law Barry, her parents Andre and Justine Sydor, brother Paul, and sister Helen. She is survived by her children: Nick, Ellen, Phyllis, Betty (Lloyd), Peter (Sharon), Ernie (Debbie), Maxine, Phillip (Marilyn) and Terry (Jean). Grandchildren: Nevin, Natashia (Kent), Bryan, David, Cathy (Cliff), Amanda, Chris, Derek, Drew, Matthew, Melanie, Brittany, Jennifer and Jonathan. Great grandchildren: Harley, Liam, Kristen, Ashley, Owen, Cole and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk as Celebrant, assisted by Cantor, Stella Fedeniuk. The Cross bearer will be granddaughter Natashia, the reading by granddaughter Jennifer, the eulogy by grandson Drew, and the violin will be played by granddaughter Melanie. Active pallbearers will be grandchildren: Nevin, David, Drew, Matthew, Jonathan, Chris, Cathy and Brittany. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
