PICKERING: Rhoda (Dolly) Pickering of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 at the age of 97 years. Dolly was born in Winnipeg on June l0, l912. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Rhoda Hibburt, daughter June Lahay, great grandson Matt Hancock and husband of 64 years, Edward (Ted). Dolly is survived by daughter Lillian and husband Doug Hancock of Winnipeg, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Dolly was educated in the Weston area of Winnipeg and lived in the home in which she was born until Ted was transferred to Brandon in l973. Dolly was a member of St. Thomas Anglican Church in Weston and was involved in the Catherine Anne Guild until the move to Brandon. Dolly and Ted became members of the St. Matthew's Anglican Cathedral where Dolly was involved in the Mardi Club. While in Winnipeg Dolly participated in tennis, bowling and bridge and once in Brandon continued with her bowling and bridge. Thank you to all who sent cards and visited Mom in the hospital. She appreciated hearing and seeing you all. Also thank you to two special friends, Barbara Robertson and especially Fran Bridgett who was such a great help to me. Thank you to Dr. Joanne Maier and the staff at the Assiniboine Centre who gave such excellent and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthews Anglican Cathedral, 403-13th Street, Brandon, on Saturday, January l6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., with The Very Reverend Robin Walker officiating.
