Herta VANDENDORPE

VANDENDORPE: Herta Mary Vandendorpe of Deloraine, Manitoba passed away December 6, 2009 at the Deloraine Hospital. Herta was born August 19, 1924, to Rene and Octavie Dekeyser in Itchetchem, Belgium. Herta and her Mother came to Canada in 1928 to join her Dad who had come over to work in 1927. They eventually settled in the Waskada and Medora areas, where two more sisters and two more brothers were born. Herta married Orval Vanmackelbergh on October 19, 1949 and had a family of five, Judith, Ronald, Linda, Katherine and Gerald. They lived in the Otter district. Orval passed away very suddenly on March 7, 1960 leaving a young wife and family. Herta continued to raise her family on the farm. On November 23, 1968, Herta and Albert Vandendorpe were married and lived on the farm until 1973 when they moved to Deloraine. Herta worked at the Deloraine Hospital until her retirement in 1989. Herta was an active volunteer in the community belonging to many organizations, only naming a few: O.O.R.P. (over 40 years), CWL, Deloraine Game & Fish, Lukkenfest (baking thousands of cookies), Legion Auxiliary, and many others. Her willingness to involve herself in the community causes would earn her recognition from the Province of Manitoba. Herta was predeceased by her parents, Rene and Octavie Dekeyser; her first husband Orval; grandson, Bradley Vanmackelbergh; sister-in-law, Ilene Dekeyser; brothers- in-law, Henry Voth, Rene LeRoux and Norman Vandendorpe; and mother and father-in-law, Gerry and Madeline Vandendorpe. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 41 years, Albert; children, Judy Richardson (Gary), Ron (Brenda), Linda Hartel (Barry), Kathy Ginter (Don) and Gerry (Wendy); her thirteen grandchildren and her fourteen great-grandchildren. Also her sisters, Hilda Teetaert (Harry) and Alice Voth; brothers, Maurice Dekeyser (Louise) and Bill Dekeyser (Sheila); and brother and sisters-in-law, Irene Mosset, Alice LeRoux, Yvonne Vandendorpe, and Dorothy and Cliff Truscott; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on December 9, 2009 at St. Antoninus Catholic Church with Father Michael Nwosu officiating. Pallbearers were nephews, Rene and Don Teetaert, Tony and Kevin Dekeyser and Ken and Gordon Voth. Interment was in the Deloraine Catholic Cemetery. Rest in peace,You will always be in our hearts.
