McMURACHY: Gladys passed away peacefully on January 1, 2010 at Concordia Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gladys Eveline Smith was born April 27, 1925 in Hamiota, Manitoba, second of eight children to William and Eveline Smith. She grew up on the family farm south east of Shoal Lake, Manitoba. She was a true farm girl of that time, milking cows and feeding pigs, chickens, etc. She started school at six years of age having to walk three miles to Green Bluff School. She also attended church services at Green Bluff. She married John McMurachy in 1945 and they farmed in the McConnell district for many years. They raised five children. They moved to Strathclair in 1977. Gladys took nurses aid training in 1974 and worked at Morley House Senior Home in Shoal Lake for 17 years. John passed away in 1988. Gladys moved from Strathclair finally settling down in Shoal Lake in 1999 with friend Jon DeLeeuw. They both entered Morley House and then to Concordia Place to be closer to John’s family. Gladys was laid to rest Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in Strathclair. Pastor George Isaak officiated with help from Pastor Bob Knight. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Bill, Cecil and Bob, sister Doreen, husband John, friend Jon, sons John (Jack), Jim and Jerry, daughters Margaret and Sharon, grandsons David and Stacey, son-in-law Al, brothers-in-law Stan Thompson, Roy Hodgson and Harry Winstone. Gladys is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Gwen Winstone, Vera Thompson and Ethel Griswold, brother-in-law Vern Griswold, sister-in-law Sarah Smith and many nieces and nephews. Campbell Funeral Services were in charge of arrangements. Friends who wish, may make a donation in memory of Gladys to Muscular Dystrophy 204 - 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
