DANE: Jim (William James). It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Dane announces his passing after a courageous battle with cancer, on January 19th, 2010 at the age of 82. Jim will be lovingly remembered by Jean, his wife of 56 years, and his children, Deb Arpin (Gil), Brent Dane (Nancy), Sue Henry, and Marj Newton (Jamie). Jim will also be remembered as our special Gramps by his ten grandchildren, Melanie (Jason), Danniele (Phil), Richard, Amy (Landon), Brady, Mitchell, Tessa, Jackson, Ryleigh, Keland, and by his three great-grandchildren Aiden, Ryder, and Layla. Jim is also survived by his sisters Margaret and Merle, and predeceased by his grandson Kelsey James. Jim was born on April 30,1927 and raised in Bunclody, Manitoba. Jean and Jim resided in Alexander for many years raising their family and participating in all community events. He worked at Western Motors, Anglo Oil, Royalite Oil, Brandon Chrysler Dodge, and retired as Secretary Treasurer for the R.M. of Whitehead. Jim loved to play softball, and golf along with supporting his four children in all their endeavors. He and Jean attended as many dances as possible over their life together, and would dance the entire evening away, often being one of the last to leave! Jim and Jean have enjoyed their retirement years in Brandon continuing to golf, dance, and socialize with their friends. He spent countless hours volunteering at the Brandon Armoury, which was an extension of his interest in the war and its memorabilia. Dad was a plain and simple man who could be counted upon by his wife and children, no matter what the situation. His calm demeanor, work ethic, sensible advice, his strong opinions on any topic, and the raised eyebrows look when we were in trouble, will be sorely missed by us all. His love for his family was steady, true, and down to earth - our love, admiration and respect for our Dad will be with all of us forever. A Memorial Celebration to honor the life of Jim will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Memories Chapel. The Celebration will be Come & Go from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Please join us to honor our Husband, Dad, and Gramps, to share memories and above all, laughter! Those who so desire may make Memorial Donations in memory of Jim to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
