HAYDEN: Paul Van. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Paul Van Hayden on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Paul was born on September 19, 1918 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan and raised on a Homestead farm with his siblings Lyle, Letty and Marion. Paul went to Moose Plains, a one room school house. He walked two miles in summer and took a horse and toboggan in the winter. He went to High school in Nipawin, attended the University of Saskatoon and went to St. Thomas, Ontario for one year, completing his mechanics training. Paul joined the Air force in 1940 and became an airframe mechanic. He was stationed in Souris, Manitoba until the base closed. Prior to his discharge, Paul met Edith Moir of Hartney, Manitoba at a dance. They were married on April 16, 1946. They moved to Brandon where their children were born: Van in 1946, Terry in 1948, Raymond (Red) in 1952, and Marilyn in 1954. He worked at the Brandon Hardware for ten years, the water pumping station for a while, and then to Walter Woods Wholesale Hardware Company as a Traveling Hardware Salesman, retiring in 1979. Paul belonged to the U.C.T. for fifty years and in earlier years volunteered at the East End Community Centre. Paul loved to garden, especially growing his gladiolas, tomatoes, onions, and radishes. He loved woodworking and puttering around in his shed. He read just about anything he could get his hands on and he was a regular "Mr. Fix It", he could fix anything. Paul loved to go camping with the family when the kids were young. They started with a tent and then graduated to a tent trailer.
