SAGE: Rose Anne Sage. Rose was born in Boissevain on November 24th, 1916, the eighth child of Fred (Teddy) and Julia Brown. Rose received her schooling in Boissevain and worked for various families in the area, helping with the cooking, cleaning and looking after the children. Rose married Harry Sage of Ninga on October 11, 1936. They had two sons, Bill born in 1937 and Don born in 1941. Harry and Rose farmed north of Ninga until selling their farm in 1949 and moving to Deloraine where they had purchased the Jubilee Theatre. In 1959, they also purchased the Bus Depot in Deloraine and renamed it The Rendezvous. In 1968, Harry and Rose sold The Rendezvous and left Deloraine for the warmer climate of BC. They managed apartment blocks in the greater Vancouver area until their retirement in 1979. Harry and Rose were strong supporters of the Anglican Church, both in Manitoba and B.C. In her younger years, Rose enjoyed curling and watching every sport that Harry enjoyed, be it baseball, football or hockey. After moving to B.C., Rose joined the Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club and enjoyed many years of lawn bowling. She loved to play cards with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially cribbage, which had been taught to her by her father. Harry passed away in 1995 and Rose remained living BC until January 2002 when she felt it was time to return to her roots and family in Manitoba. Upon her return, she lived in Killarney for a short time and then relocated to Westview Lodge in Boissevain. In November 2006 she moved to Evergreen Place. She remained at Evergreen Place until the time of her passing on December 22, 2009. Rose is survived by one sister Mabel Scott; daughter-in-law Marion Sage; granddaughters, Deb Merritt (Dale), and Kelly Sage; grandsons, Shawn Sage (Tracy), Darrin Sage; great grandchildren, Amanda, Cam and Jen Merritt, Scott, Kain and Sharra Sage, Riley, Sullivan and Connor Sage. She is also survived by special nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, three sisters, all of her brothers and sisters-in-law, daughter- in-law Lorna, sons Bill and Don. Following interment at Del-Win Cemetery on January 12, 2010 a memorial service was held at Smith Funeral Home in Deloraine with Reverend Rick Reed officiating. If friends and relatives desire, donations in memory of Rose may be made to the Boissevain Beautification Project - Arts Park or St. Matthews Anglican Church, Boissevain. Arrangements were in care of Smith Funeral Home, Deloraine, Manitoba.
