CAP: Rena. It is with great sadness that the family of Rena Cap announcesthe sudden death of their mother on December 3, 2009. Rena was born June 25, 1936 in Berlin, Germany. Her mother died when Rena was very young and she was raised by an aunt and her father. Often Rena and her father had to flee to safety due to the war. Rena came to Canada in 1959 and lived in Portage la Prairie where she worked at the Manitoba Development Center. When she married Edward Cap, she moved to Brandon, where she worked at the Metropolitan lunch counter. Rena and Ed were foster parents to many babies and young children. And they adopted their two children: Sandra and Michael. Rena took a Life Skills course at Assiniboine Community College as well as a photography course, horticulture programs and basic computer courses. For a short time she worked at the Brandon Correctional Centre. She owned and operated Jalna Kennels with Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers and Miniature Poodles. Rena worked hard at having genetically sound dogs andtypical of the breed standards. She showed the Tollers and won many prestigious awards from coast to coast. Some of her dogs were exported to Finland, Holland, Sweden, etc., U.S. and across Canada. She loved her puppies and found it hard to let them go to their new homes. She also boarded dogs, clipped and groomed poodles. Rena was proud of her home, yard and kennel in the country near Forrest. She enjoyed the peace and quiet for 35 years and she thought nature was at its best in her yard. She was a member of both Garden Clubs in Brandon. Rena was a founding member of Parents without Partners and a life member of the Brandon Humane Society and Canadian Kennel Club. From 1986 to 1999, Rena did volunteer work for the Department of Justice. She was recognized for her services to youth in conflict with the law and was awarded the Solvason Memorial Award from the John Howard Society. She worked for the past 10 years as Fine Option/Community Service Program Coordinator in Westman. Rena was involved with the Crocus Obedience and Kennel Club in its beginnings and the first and early shows and trials. Later, Rena established My Dog Training Club for a Brandon based obedience training club. Rena enjoyed travelling as time and money allowed. She attended Toller booster shows at Dartmouth and Vancouver Island and points in between. She attended musical productions in Winnipeg and Brandon, with Phantom of the Opera being her favorite. Rena is survived by Michael Cap of Brandon, Sandra Cap of Coronation, Alberta and granddaughter Brittany Leigh Cap of Williams Lake, BC. Foster children, Lorne Cap and Roberta Stonechild were also raised to adulthood in the Cap home. According to her wishes, cremation took place and a Celebration of her Life occurred January 29, 2010 at Memories Chapel. Tribute was given by Mr. Lawrence McInnes. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
