HOROBIN: Albert E. Horobin. Peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, with his daughter at his side, Albert passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 87 years. Remaining to forever cherish Bert’s memory are his two daughters, Pat Haley (Roy) and Carol Robson; six grandchildren, Robert Rutkowksi(Connie), Blair Rutkowski (Aneesa), Jodie Zurbyk(Darrell), Michael Rogers, Sarah Rogers, Matthew Rogers (Jasmine); four great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Brickwood (Richard), Dorothy Stanley; brother, Tom Horobin. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Ethel; sister Grace Bryant; brother Joey and his wife Winnie. Bert was born in Brandon, Manitoba and lived most of his live there until June 2006, when he moved to Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. He joined the Navy in 1942, was overseas and returned to Brandon after the War. He was a firefighter in CFB Shilo for almost 40 years. Bert was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3. He loved playing darts, shuffleboard, fishing, gardening and spending time outdoors. Spending time with family and close friends was very special to him. Bert had a special love of dogs, especially his loyal companion, Benji. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, 560 13th Street East off of Victoria Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba. The family wishes to thank the amazing staff on Tower 4 at Deer Lodge Centre, who were ever respectful, warm and loving to Bert. In lieu of flowers donations in Bert’s honour may be made to Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 0L3.
