RULE: Thomas Gilbert of Minnedosa, Manitoba passed away January 28, 2010 suddenly at the age of 46 years. Tom was predeceased by his mother Marjorie (Elaine), father, James (Jim) and aunt, Mary Rule. Surviving are his wife Susan, one son, Jerry George Allan. Tom was born June 13, 1963 in the Wawanesa Hospital. Proud parents were Jim and Elaine Rule. His family moved to Minnedosa, Manitoba soon after that. In Minnedosa he received his education, graduated from Minnedosa Collegiate Institute. As you hear this is Hockey Night in Canada, Tom played hockey in his home town rink as well as many other small towns. It was then a strong work ethic and play worked hand in hand. He delivered the Brandon Sun for the North East end of town. A school science project one year was about Inuit people and culture. This project was very special. When growing up his family enjoyed camping trips, where he learned the art of setting up a camp site and the enjoyment you receive from set up to the minute you go home. For this is where he found love and appreciation for wildlife. Tom made friends easy. Soon a life long friend introduced five pin bowling. Traveling to tournaments in Shilo, Brandon, and Winnipeg. Passing his drivers license with complete success, cool - now was the time to see more of the world and learn. The year 1978 came time for hunter safety. Ducks, geese, gophers and deer came with in iron sites. The fine art of fishing accomplished and catching the big one is still not a fillet on the table. With that in mind Newfoundland called his name. Not finding suitable employment the calling for home came. Tom found work at 7-eleven in Brandon and later was transferred to Dauphin to open the new store up there. Not ready yet to settle down, Brandon branch of North American Lumber was hiring. This is where working with lumber came with great joy of learning to build and fix anything. Within time another opening came up. This time Minnedosa location of North American Lumber. Time for Tom to make home town roots. Started working with Dad, Jim on the side with janitorial work. In 1991 came the name Thomas Rule Janitorial Services. Very meticulous work brought many clients his way without advertising. Tom gave of himself unselfishly and whole heartedly. For the love of working outdoors came the job for Canada Post. Which he said he would retire from. Tom will be missed by his wife of 20 years, Susan. Almost 21 on March 3, 2010; one son Jerry; one sister Lorraine (Mac) McCallum. Thomas touched a lot of people with everything he did. This will never be forgotten. Sadly missed by Jackie and Sophia - house pets. The funeral service was held Thursday, February 4, 2010 from Minnedosa Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don Dragon and Rev. Tom Delgaty officiating. Interment followed in Minnedosa Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Grieder, Gord Lane, Terry Dmytriw, Jacque Pelland, Randy McLean, Barry McNabb. Honorary pallbearers were Don Farr, Nelson Shewfelt, Phil Lewis, Mark Blais, Blaine Kowalick, Terry Mansell, Max Kingdon. Minnedosa Funeral Service was in care of arrangements.REMEMBER THOSE WORDSWe are gathered together on this happy dayTo stand before God and to reverently say:I take thee to be my partner for life,To love and to live with as husband and wife;To have and to hold forever, Sweetheart,Through sickness and health until death do us part;To love and to cherish whatever betide,And in Better or Worse to stand by your side...We do this not lightly but solemnly, Lord,Asking Thy blessing as we live in accordWith Thy Holy Precepts which join us in loveAnd assure us Thy guidance and grace from above...And grant us, dear Lord, that I Will and I DoAre words that grow deeper and more meaningful, too,Through long happy years of caring and sharing,Secure in the knowledge that we are preparingA love that is endless and never can dieBut finds its Fulfillment with You in the Sky.
