SHELVEY: Kathleen A. Shelvey (Norris) beloved wife of the late Fred Shelvey formerly of Justice, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 86 years. Kay was born on the family farm near Rapid City May 5, 1923 to Charles and Marion Norris. She had many happy memories and funny stories of helping her father with the farm work. At a very early age her mother taught her to knit and crochet. Kay attended Mount Vernon School. Kay married Fred Shelvey of Forrest in 1942 and moved to Justice in 1947. Kay was a homemaker for most of her life. She took great pride in her family, yard and flower gardens. She was very active in the community with involvement in Baby Band, Sunday School, Church committees, Women's Institute, Women's Auxiliary, Women's Missionary Services, 4-H Seed Club and home economics, community club, rink and curling clubs and the Legion. Kay played softball for many years with St. Georges and then with the Justice Jets. She loved to curl and won many bonspiels. Kay took great pleasure in using her creative talents to make many beautiful items throughout her life. As a young adult she worked with her mother to knit hats, scarves, gloves and mitts for the Red Cross to send to the men overseas during the war. Kay and Fred loved to travel. They had many fun filled vacations with their children. After retirement they traveled extensively to: Hawaii, Europe, Portugal, Spain, Britain, Africa, all of Canada, the United States and Mexico. Kay enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and acquired about 900 pair. Kay moved to Brandon in 1999 after Fredpassed away. She moved to Hobbs Manor several years ago and enjoyed many friends and activities there. Two sons and one daughter survive Kay: Bill (Carol) Shelvey of Brandon, Doug (Evelyn) Shelvey of The Pas and Deb Cross of Brandon. Grandchildren: David (Candi) Shelvey, Cheryl (Barry) Lee, Evan Shelvey, Valerie Shelvey, Jason (Angela) Cross, Rachel Cross and Ben Cross. Great Grandchildren: Ericka and Tawny Shelvey, Kyle and Ashley Lee. Sisters-in-law Eva Shelvey and Arley White. Kay was predeceased by: husband Fred Shelvey, parents Charles and Marion Norris, sister Mabel Shelvey, brother Don Norris, infant brother Billy, several sisters- in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces. Kay will be missed by her family and friends. The Ceremony to Celebrate Kay's life was held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Memories Chapel. Rev. Ernest Shelvey officiated. Pallbearers were: Jason Cross, Ben Cross, Evan Shelvey, David Shelvey, Kyle Lee and Barry Lee. Interment followed in Humesville Cemetery. Friends may make a donation in memory of Kay to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathymay be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
