SKIEHAR (Hamilton): It is with great sadness that on February 6, 2010 ElsieG. Skiehar, with her family at her side, peacefully passed away at her Fairview Home residence at the age of 95. She was born on the family farm August 18th, 1914 near Maryfield, Saskatchewan. She had many happy memories of her childhood, playing with her dog "Chum" and riding 4 miles to school on her horse named "Daisy". At a very early age Mom learned to play the piano both by ear and by note. In later years it became family tradition to gather around the piano for family sing-a-longs. In April 1936 she married Laurence Hamilton and they farmed along the Pipestone creek. Later in 1946 they bought a farm just north of Elkhorn where they farmed and raised their family until Laurence's passing away in 1962. After Dad died Mom continued farming with the help of her sons and finished raising the four children who were still at home. In 1968 she met Steve Skiehar from the Swan River area but they did not married until July 1971. After living a short while in Elkhorn, Mom and Steve moved to Winfield, BC. They shared many common interests and enjoyed being able to do some travelling throughout their 16 years of marriage. Mom always said she felt privileged to have had two very good marriages. After Steve passed away in 1987 Mom moved back to Brandon to be closer to her family. She lived in Brandon until March 2003 when shemoved to Carberry to live with her son Eldon, his wife Lucy and family. Due to failing health she moved to Fairview Personal Care Home in June 2008. She will be sadly missed by her seven children: Sylvia (Jim) Heslip, Lois (Carl) Owen, Hazel (Albert) Codd, Eldon (Lucy) Hamilton, Gordon (Judy) Hamilton, Mary Ann Peniuk, and Elaine (Con) Arvisais; one step-daughter Carol (George) Shaw, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild. The funeral service was held on February 12, 2010 at the Elk's Hall in Elkhorn, Manitoba. Interment followed at the Elkhorn Cemetery. Six of her grandsons were pallbearers: Lorne Heslip, Rodney Owen, Laurence Codd,Wesley Hamilton, Marty Peniuk and Jason Alston. All in attendance were considered Honourary Pallbearers. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Fairview Home who provided wonderful care for Mom throughout the past two years. Donations if so desired may be made to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
