FAST: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tena Jessie Fast on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Fairview Personal Care Home at the age of 87 years. Tena was born in Krasikow, Russia on January 24, 1923 to parents Peter and Mary Fast, now deceased. In November 1925, at the age of two years she immigrated with her parents to Canada in search of new beginnings. She grew up around the Boissevain area, and on November 27, 1943 she married Bernard "Ben" Fast, also of the Boissevain district. They farmed for several years, then in 1955 they moved to Brandon where her husband was employed by Manco Dairies for many years, and passed away in 1987. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always there to provide comfort and advice. Her caring and generous nature enabled her to make many lifelong friends. She spent many hours working in her garden, was an accomplished seamstress, an exceptional housekeeper, and also loved to bake. She enjoyed being a homemaker and having family and friends over for many special occasions. Everyone was always welcome at her table and in her home. Often friends and family members left her house with generous portions of her delicious homemade baking and canning. She was an inspiration to us all and will be sadly missed. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her three children, Elmer Fast of Kamloops, B.C., Linda (George) Nykulaik of Winnipeg, Ken Fast of Brandon, granddaughters Shannon (Kurt) Harriman and their children Tanner and Eden of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and Christine (Clyde) Feero of Kamloops, B.C. Two brothers and two sisters also survive: Peter Fast of Boissevain, John (Erna) Fast of St. Catharine's Ontario, Anne (Tom) Gamble of Sacramento, California and Minna Peters of Calgary, Alberta, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Egan and the staff at the Fairview Personal Care Home for their dedication and care over these past few years. In compliance with Tena's wishes, a private family graveside memorial service was held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
