GIBBINGS: August 15, 1920 - March 21, 2010. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Enid Gibbings, formerly of Eriksdale, Manitoba, on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Enid was born on August 15, 1920 in Miami, Manitoba. She fondly remembered her days growing up on the family farm with her six siblings. After completing Grade 12, she trained as a teacher and began her career in 1939 at Parkview, a one-room schoolhouse. Soon she moved to a larger school in Eriksdale. While there, she met and married Ben Gibbings. Together they became active in both their church and community. Enid contributed to the United Church by teaching Sunday School for many years. She was a strong UCW member, a member of the church board, secretary and delegate to Presbytery and one of the conveners for the United Church Conference. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a member of the School Board and one of the founding members of the Eriksdale Credit Union. While raising their family of three children, Enid continued to substitute for the local schools but eventually found her true niche in the field of Adult Education. A few years after Bens death in 1994, Enid decided to leave the community she loved and moved to Brandon, Manitoba where she spent the last years of her life. Enid enjoyed learning and was an avid reader. She was a card shark and champion Bridge player. She loved nature and spent countless hours gardening, always managing to give away as much as she kept. She was a loving and dedicated mother, an attentive friend and a doting Grandma. Enid leaves to mourn her three children, daughter Bonnie (Pat) Acer of Rochester, NY, a son Paul Gibbings of Portage la Prairie and daughter Michelle (Bruce) Willows of Rivers, MB; five grandchildren Matthew, Andrew and Anthony Acer, Brett and Riley Willows. Enid is also survived by three sisters Donna Freeman, June Newsom and Mary Ann Monkman as well many nieces, nephews and friends. Enid was predeceased by her husband Ben, her sisters Shirley and Marion and brother Jim. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Eriksdale United Church with Rev Melanie Kauppila officiating. Interment to follow in the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Enids memory to the Eriksdale United Church, c/o Carol Boychuk, Box 213, Eriksdale, Manitoba, R0C 0W0 or to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements by: Arnason Funeral Home, Ashern - Lundar. 1-204-768-2072, 1-866-323-3593.
