ARMITAGE: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Rodney (Rick) Armitage on February 19, 2010 at his home at Rutledge, Manitoba. Rick had his 63rd birthday on February 15th. He was the first child of Ivan and Irene Armitage. Rick grew up in the valley with his Armitage cousins just down the road. He went to school in Miniota and belonged to 4H Beef and Potato Clubs. Rick married Elaine Atwood in 1968 and Caroline Dawn was born on May 26th, 1969. Caroline married Brad Thompson and they have a daughter Brooke Magdelene. Later Rick and Elaine divorced and on November 4 1989 Rick married Linda (Sommerville) Brown. Linda has two daughters, Michelle Brown and Carolyn Robertson and five grandchildren. Rick’s most enjoyable job was driving a truck. He sold real estate for a while but soon was back truck driving. Over the years he drove through most of the States and all of Canada. He had many stories of his experiences on the road. When he was told he had cancer he knew he wouldn’t be driving again. It was a heart-breaking day when his truck left the yard without him. Rick was predeceased by his Dad, Ivan, just two years ago. It is comforting to know they are together again. His Armitage aunts and uncles and grandparents have all passed on. Also his Hooper grandparents, Aunt Ethel and Uncle Gordon Stewart, and his Uncle Ron Hooper. He was also predeceased by his cousins, Donna Marie Stewart and Ralph Stewart. A year ago his cousin Caitlyn Arksey lost her battle with cancer. Rick leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Linda and her family. His Mom, Irene, sisters Arlene and Debra, and brother Doug (Doreen), Brother in law Joss March and his family, and special Aunt Joan Hooper in Victoria. Rick will always be loved and missed so much. His illness and passing leaves a void in our family that will never be filled. There is comfort in knowing he is free of the pain of cancer and that he is at peace. Rick’s graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the Miniota Cemetery.
