PHILLIPS: Harold Graham Phillips, passed away peacefully with family at his side at the Hartney Community Health Centre on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the age of 81. Harold was born to George Trineer Phillips and Lela Maud Mary (nee Graham) Phillips on August 15, 1928 on SE 33-5-24, near Lauder. Harold went to school at Grand Bend and then farmed with his father and later with his brother Clare Phillips. He took courses in mechanics, diesel and welding and had a private pilot’s license. On October 27, 1956 he married Margaret (Peggy) Julia Lundy. Together they raised 4 children on the farm north of Lauder. In 1994, Harold and Peggy moved from the farm to Hartney, Manitoba. Harold loved the farm and the Lauder community. He enjoyed participating in many local community organizations and functions. Many summers were spent with family on summer vacations and camping trips. Farming was Harold’s passion. Many years of farming were rewarded with travel to places like New Zealand, Hawaii, Florida and Alabama. His other passion was family, especially his grandchildren. Harold was delighted to be a part of their lives. He spent much of his time following their interests and spending time with them. Harold was predeceased by his wife Peggy, his sisters Irene, Dorothy (Elmer) Hicks, and his brother Gordon. He leaves to mourn four sons Murray (Linda) children Katie, Mark and Julia; Wesley (Tracy) children Brendan, Brittany, and Riley; Donald (Linda) children Robert and Leah; Steven (Becky) children Abby, Sean and Alex; sister Norma (Watson) Roper, brother Clare (Donna), brother John (Pat); numerous nieces and nephews. A family service was held at Lauder Cemetery on April 7, 2010. Harold will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Many thanks to Dr. Stone and the staff at the Hartney Community Health Centre, and the Souris Health Centre for the great care dad received, to Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home for taking care of arrangements, and to Rev. Margret Kristjansson for the beautiful service. In memory of Harold, donations may be made to the Hartney Community Health Centre.
