ZURKOWSKI: Pauline Zurkowski (nee Pshebnisky), March 16, 1920 - February 28, 2010. Our mother passed peacefully on February 28, 2010 at the age of 89 years at the Kinsmen Seniors Retirement Home in Tsawwassen, B.C. She was one of 11 children born to Ahafia and Mike Pshebnisky in Fork River, Manitoba. She married her neighbour Anthony (Tony) in 1937 and they farmed in the Tamarisk district, south of Grandview from 1938 until moving to Brandon in 1968. Pauline was known for her friendliness and helpfulness to her friends and neighbours. The abundance and tastiness of “Polly’s” cooking was very much appreciated by the men of the threshing and woodcutting crews on the farm. She was energetic and enterprising: raised poultry, sold cream, milk and eggs to supplement the family income. She worked alongside her husband in all aspects of farming and managed it while Tony worked out of town on various construction sites. In Brandon, she used up her excess energy working part-time at the Co-op Bakery. Polly was an outgoing person and loved going to parties and dancing. She took great pride in her home, garden and landscaping throughout her whole life. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Tony, in 1985. Left to love and cherish her memory are her son Leonard and his wife Marilyn, daughter Nadya Kamienski, sisters Olga, Jean and Ida as well as many nieces and nephews residing all over Canada and the US. Father Michael Skrumeda (Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church) will officiate at a gravesite prayer service at the Brandon Municipal Cemetery (1901 - 18th Street South) on Monday May 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
