Joyce Kruschel, beloved wife of the late Adam Kruschel and mother of Vickey Lowdon (Brian), Ron (Linda), Shirley Smith (Ron), Cathy Spencer (Larry) and Leanne Keffer (Gord Westergard) passed away peacefully with her children at her side on April 13, 2010 at her residence at Rideau Park Personal Care Home. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Troy (Heather), Tracey (Shane), Jodi (Paul), Chad (Jen), Chelsea (Rich), Graham, Jeff (Christie) Jeremy (Jolin), Ashley, Josh (Kerri) and Marissa and her great- grandchildren: Erin, Justice, Desmond, Ethan, Austin, Lily, Dylan, Maia, Kady, Adam and Sloane. She was predeceased by her brothers Tom and Willard and is survived by her sisters: Enid of Victoria B.C., Shirley Lamothe (Andy) of Winnipeg and June Lamothe (Albert) of Arnes, MB. Also surviving her are sisters in law, Teeny Evans and Shirley Evans both of Winnipeg, as well as many dear nieces and nephews. Joy was born on December 29, 1926 in Ninga, Manitoba. She was the second child born to Verna and Albert Evans. As the oldest girl of the family, Joy was taught to bake and to cook at an early age and took on these responsibilities in her family home to support her parent’s work. She attended school in Ninga and then moved to Winnipeg and took on a job as a nanny and housekeeper. She then worked at the Royal Bank prior to moving back to the country. Joy married Adam Kruschel on October 13, 1947 and became the mother of five children: Vickey, Ron, Shirley, Cathy and Leanne. After farming in Deloraine, Adam found work in Brandon and the family moved there in 1955. Joy was the ultimate caregiver, and not only raised her five children, but also took in borders, and provided childcare for friends and neighbours. She also ran a household that included gardening, canning and freezing. Joy and Adam took pride in their large garden and shared their produce with friends and family. Joy was also known for her cooking and baking skills. She made the best bread, buns, cakes and cookies and would always have her children’s favorites on hand. Joy loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed knitting, Tai Chi, camping, and shopping. She was known to get an early start on her Christmas shopping by starting in January to ensure she had enough gifts for all of her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Joy was an open-hearted woman and remained very close with her family and friends. She had a quiet, unassuming strength that provided her friends and family with unwavering support when facing adversity. She was an extremely patient person and an incredible listener. She always thought carefully before she spoke and would take in all the information before making her contribution. She shared her opinions if asked, and always supported her children and friends no matter what path they chose. Our Mom was the sweetest, kindest, most humble, caring and loving woman you could ever meet. She taught us many important lessons that have shaped us into the people we are today. Mom, you have served your children well and as we watch our own children become parents, we see your light shining within them. Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for the wonderful care, compassion and kindness given to Mom and extended to our family. We wish also to give special thanks to Rev. Joe Ball for his generous time, consideration and comfort shown to Mom and our family. We would also like to thank Kurt Ardron from Brockie Donovan, for his kindness, guidance and support. Thank you to our family and friends for their ongoing support during this difficult time, for the cards, flowers, generous gifts of food, calls and emails. The service to celebrate Mom’s life took place at 2:00 p.m. on April 17, 2010 at the chapel at Brockie Donovan. She was laid to rest beside our father, Adam in the Brandon Cemetery. Those we hold most dear never truly leave us,They live on in the kindnesses they showed,The comfort they shared,And the love they brought into our lives. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations in Joy’s memory can be made to Osteoporosis Canada, Manitoba Chapter 123 St. Anne’s Road, Winnipeg Manitoba, R2M 2Z1.
