JONES: Janet Elizabeth Jones. Peacefully, on May 17, 2010, the Angels gently carried Mum away to be reunited with our Dad. Although she fought valiantly to stay with us, the effects of a massive stroke on February 26th, 2010 were too much to overcome. Mum was predeceased by our Dad in 1993, and is survived by her children, Bev Bachewich (Len) and Lorraine Jones-Wieler (Dennis) and Dennis Jones, (Friend Sharon) daughter- in-law Pat Jones, and four grandchildren, Darcee, Stephanie, Kim (Friend Guy) and Darren (Valerie) and three Great Grandchildren, Drew, Josh and Taylor. She will also be sadly missed by her brothers, Ross Hay (Marguerite) and Ken Hay (Marjorie) and her sisters, Dorothy Duncan and Evelyn Pool and her sister-in-law Thelma Hay. She was also predeceased by her brothers-in-law John Pool and Ralph Duncan. Janet was born on December 13, 1923 to Russell and Martha Hay. Mum completed her education in the District of Melvin and in 1942 received her Diploma from Normal School to allow her to enter the field of Education. She married Lloyd Owen Howard Jones on July 8th, 1944 and they farmed the land at both Sighthill and Ravenshoe Districts before moving to Austin in 1958. Mum worked at Stevens Airport during wartime and at Lambs Solo Store for a number of years before beginning her 19 year career at the Austin Credit Union, first as a cashier and later on as the Interim Manager. She retired in 1987. Mum loved her time spent with her grandchildren and they grew up learning the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes and knowing the benefits of tea and toast before bedtime. Mum continued to holiday at Brereton Lake where she spent her time watching the amazing sunsets, taking the occasional boat tour around the Lake and listening to the rest of us playing cards. She and Dad used to lug her sewing machine out to the cottage for a couple of weeks in the summer so that she could sew curtains and upholster the old furniture while we went fishing. Mum also enjoyed her time in the summer helping Lorraine with her huge garden, canning tomatoes, shelling peas and picking raspberries. Mums last big outing was the Hay Reunion held in Neepawa in July of 2009 where she was honored as being the oldest surviving member of the Hay Clan. She was very proud of that fact. Mum was able to live in her own home to the end thanks to the wonderful Home Care Workers who assisted with medications and meals. A special thank you to Gail Cleaver, Mums primary caregiver who always went above and beyond to make Mum feel very Special. Gail would discuss newspaper events and community news and made sure that Mum felt part of what was going on downtown even though she could no longer take part in the afternoon coffee times. If friends so desire, a condolence contribution may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Catherine Newham-Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 1A7.
