KOMER: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great grandfather Nick on May 27, 2010 at Hillcrest Place. Nick was born December 12, 1922. His childhood was spent working hard helping his family cope in difficult times. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, carpentry and Sunday drives. His meticulous carpentry skills were called upon by his children and grandchildren. Nick was a hard worker and very much a perfectionist. In 1943, Nick joined the CNR Railroad as a switchman, filling in as conductor and yardmaster. In 1948, he married Sophie Macialek and they were blessed with three children: Wayne, Fran (Jack) Jacobson and Terry. In 1979 he retired to help Sophie babysit grandchildren Jackie (John) Guthrie and Jared (Robin) Jacobson. His time spent, lessons taught, quick wit and teasing ways will be cherished by Jackie and Jared and their children Ethan, Ella, Halle and Jaxon. Nick is survived by sister Nancy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Sophie (December, 2008), parents Annie and Steve, sisters Stella and Kaye and numerous in-laws. Nick was fortunate to remain in his own home until December 2009, when his cancer complications made his move to Hillcrest a necessity. His sound mind and funny nature helped make his stay there enjoyable. Though his stay was short, he appreciated all the helpful staff and doctors that made Hillcrest his new home. For this the family isgratefully thankful. As Nick had wished, a private family burial will be held. Rev. Jim Brown of St. George's Anglican Church will officiate. Interment will be at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Dad's Special Poem:"It's love that makes the sunny days a little brighter yet. It's love that makes the memories too precious to forget. It's love that makes our sorrows easier to bear.Love that makes the joys of life so wonderful to share."Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
