WOOD: Jean Elizabeth Wood of Brandon, Manitoba passed away peacefully, May 25, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Jean was born to Lizzie and Charlie Turner on July 7, 1926 in Lauder, Manitoba. She grew up on the family farm going to Berry Hill and Truro Schools. Jean worked at Huffman's Store in Lauder as a teenager and following the war, she met Roy Wood. They were married on June 26, 1948. Jean chose to stay at home and be a full time Mom to their three children. After Roy passed away in 1976, Jean decided to enter the work force for the first time since she was a teenager. She worked as a cook at the International Nursing Home and then found employment at Muntz Music in the Brandon Shoppers Mall and worked there until she moved to Shirley's Card Shop where she remained until her retirement in 1991. Following Roy's death, she volunteered as a contact for the Bereavement Support Group in Brandon. Jean was a member of Trinity United Church and for several years volunteered to coordinate the church pie sale at the Summer Fair. She was a member of the Centennial Ladies Bowling League and coordinated the spare list. Jean loved her flowers. Her gardens displayed as many flowers as it did vegetables and once she moved into her apartment, the balcony was filled with beautiful blossoms. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Roy, her parents Elizabeth "Lizzie" Turner and Arthur Willis "Charlie" Turner, her sister Florence and brothers George, Norman and Arthur. Jean leaves to mourn her three children: Howard Wood, Brandon; Kathy (Ken) Watson, Vernon, BC; Norm (Joan) Wood, Pitt Meadows, B.C. Grandchildren: Chris Wood, Edmonton, Alberta; Heather Wood, Calgary, Alberta; Brad Wood, Calgary, Alberta; Andrew (Celine) Watson-Alme of Jakarta, Indonesia; Jennifer (Luke) Watson-McMillan and great grandbaby Calen of Ottawa, Ontario; Alex, Scott and Grayson Wood, Pitt Meadows, B.C. Also left to mourn her passing is her brother Howard Turner, Lauder, Manitoba and her loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family was the most important thing in her life and her presence at family gatherings will be greatly missed. A private family service, arranged by Memories Chapel, was held at Brandon Cemetery on May 31st with Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Active Pallbearers were: Norman and Howard Wood, Bruce Timms, George Turner, Chris Wood and Ken Watson. Messages were read from Jean's children and her grandson and flowers laid in remembrance of her. A time of food and fellowship was held at Memories Chapel following the service.
