BRANDT: Robert Dick. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Brandt at the age of 71, on June 16, 2010 at Hillcrest Place, after a courageous battle with cancer, from this life to be with the Lord. Robert was born August 13, 1938 on the family farm at Morris (Yantzeede), Manitoba, the fourth of eleven children born to Peter and Edna Brandt. His childhood was filled with hard work, mixed with moments of mischief and adventure. He married his teenaged sweetheart, Bertha Klassen, on August 23, 1958. They made their home mostly in Winnipeg and moved the family to Brandon in 1974 where Robert was the manager of Denray Tire. Throughout his life, he worked in a variety of positions in the trucking, logging and mechanical fields. His retirement years were spent caring for his wife and family and tinkering on cars which he loved doing. He built and repaired bikes and was known around town as the "Bike Man". Bob was gifted mechanically. He could, and did, fix anything. He was funny, had a unique way of describing things, could make us laugh even reading a cookbook, and always had a story to tell with a flare. Bob was a strong, hard-working, kind and generous man with seeming unlimited patience and love, especially towards his family. He will be sorely missed and mourned by: his faithful and loving wife of 51 years, Bertha; by his four dearly loved daughters: Cheryl Jaffray (Sam Gorham) of Brandon, Donna (Barry) McAuley of Calgary, Kelly (Darrell) Wood of Okotoks; Debbie Brandt of Brandon; his 12 treasured grandchildren: Chris Jaffray, Jared (Jenn) Jaffray; Melissa (Trevor) Berry, Tara (Ben) Put, Joshua McAuley; Darcy, Lindsay, Jessica Wood; Graham MacNaughton, Kelsey MacNaughton, Melody Tanner, Kristy Brandt; two great-grandchildren: Yelana and Natalia Jaffray. He is also survived by five bossy and caring sisters, three brothers, and their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember their Uncle Bob. Words are inadequate to express our appreciation for all the staff at the Hillcrest Place and their unceasing kindness and care during Bob's last few months. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, we'd take them up to Heaven, and bring you back again. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Viewing will take place prior to the Service. Mr. Brandt's sons-in-law, Rev. Barry McAuley and Rev. Darrell Wood will officiate. Donations in memory of Robert can be made to Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, 930 - 26th St. Brandon, Manitoba, R7B2B8. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
