CHACUN: Albert. It is with great sadness that the family of Albert Chacun, age 78 years of Rivers, Manitoba announce that his death occurred Saturday June 5, 2010 at his home. Left to mourn his passing and to remember his life are his family: daughter Alice (Ken) Bullion, granddaughter Jan (Kris) Lettley, great grandsons Austin and Ethan; daughter Janette (Larry) Phinney, grandsons Scott and Mark (Christin) Phinney, granddaughter Ange (Jay Venn) Hamm, great grandson Cole; son Henry (Donna) Chacun, granddaughters Nadège and Jolene Chacun; daughter Angel (Reg) Campbell, granddaughter Vicky (Ulysse Hupi) Campbell, great grandson André, great granddaughters Angelé and Danielle, grandson Cody (Leanne) Campbell, great grandson Zander; daughter Lynn (Paul) Hunt, granddaughter Jorden Hunt, grandson Liam Hunt; son and daughter - Ronnie and Michelle. Albert was born on the family farm at Section 7-7-25 in the R.M. of Sifton to Robert and Marie Chacun. Growing up as a farm boy he gained many skills that he was able to use all through his life. Like many young men he left the farm to make his own way and that meant Brandon. There he went to work for Jacobson and Greiner where at first he ran heavy equipment then started into construction. Thru the 50s to the 70s he worked for several construction companies and then for himself on many of the new buildings being constructed in Brandon and surrounding area. He enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren how he was part of the crew that built the Hamiota School and the gym at the Rivers Elementary School. It was during this time he and his wife Nadège (Ricoine) had four children. In 1979, he went west and started to work for the Brick Warehouse in Edmonton, Alberta. It was at this time he adopted three children with Dianne (Stichman) who has predeceased him. In 1994, he retired from the Brick and moved to Rapid City along with his son Henry and his family and then to Rivers. As a retiree he never really slowed down. He spent his days doing the things he loved - working on the farm with Henry, caring for his yard or helping his neighbours any way he could. Picking up his granddaughters from the bus was a task he did everyday (you can never spoil them too much was what he would say). With a family that continued to grow he looked forward to the Christmas Eve celebration he hosted for those that could make it; there was always lots of food, fun and reminiscing. Albert was a very sociable person; it did not take long for those that were new to Rivers to get to know him. He was man that was always ready to make new friends, a person could never have too many friends should have been his motto. His time having coffee each day was an important part of his life and the people he visited with became his friends. Albert will be missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of Albert to Funds For Furry Friends, 208 740 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 0K9. Furry Friends is the agency that made it possible for Albert to have a very special friend come into his life Baby Goldie. A come and go reception was held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Rivers United Church Fellowship Hall. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
