BOYD: Gladys May Boyd passed away on June 25, 2010 at Evergreen Place in Boissevain, Manitoba. She was born at Bannerman, Manitoba, the youngest of five children of Charles and Agnes Bell. Gladys was very proud of her English heritage and especially honoured the Queen. Gladys received her schooling at Jacques School and Killarney Collegiaate. Gladys married Edgar George Boyd of Ninga, Manitoba on March 29, 1940 at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, British Columbia. The wedding reception was held at the Empress Hotel. They returned to the Killarney area to farm. In 1941 they purchased the farm in the Ninga/Maple Grove area, where they farmed until l975 when they retired to Boissevain. Edgar passed away in 1986 and Gladys remained in her own home until 2006 when she moved to Westview Lodge. She moved to Evergreen Place in 2009. Gladys and Edgar raised two daughters, Carole (Kentner) and Darlene (Perkin). Gladys loved to read and passed that love onto her family. She was very adept at knitting, crocheting, embroidery and quilting and won many prizes at the local fairs with her work. She gave away hundreds of pairs of mittens and baby booties to family and friends. She had a large garden and raspberry patch on the farm and also raised chickens. In retirement, Gladys liked to go camping with Darlene, Gerry and family at Lake Max. She took many bus trips to California, and both the east and west coasts. She also attended a number of “Scott Tournament of Hearts” curling championships with her good friend Grace Sage. She was a member of the Ninga Curling Club, Boissevain Curling Club, Beckoning Hills Activity Club, Ninga Red Cross, Ninga W.A., and also the Ninga Presbyterian Ladies Group. She was raised in the Anglican Church, but after her marriage she attended the United Church in Ninga and Boissevain. Gladys was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. Family was very important to her. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar and her parents, brothers and sisters. She is survived by Carole and Bill Kentner, Boissevain; and Darlene and Gerry Perkin, Brandon; her grandchildren, Julie Kentner (Eric Wesselius), Winnipeg; James, (Sue Ellen) Kentner, Indianapolis, Indiana; Heather (Paul) Baker, Winnipeg; Brian (Andrea) Kentner, Boissevain; and Miles Perkin, Berlin, Germany. Her great-grandchildren are Jake and Sophia Kentner, Indianapolis and Faith and Leah Kentner, Boissevain. She was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews as well as their children. A memorial service was held at Boissevain United Church on June 29, 2010. Gladys' life was well lived so please“Don't cry because it's over.
