HACHKOWSKI:The death of Alice Hachkowski occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, June 28, 2010. Alice was born in 1917 in the Rossburn District, Manitoba. Her cherished moments were growing up with nine siblings on the family farm at Marco. She married Louis Hachkowski in 1936. They had three children: Ed, Adeline, and Lorne. Alice took pride in raising their children. She enjoyed her times helping with the fundraising for theMarco Community Centre thru box socials and putting on two and three act plays. Louis and Alice retired from the farm in 1971 and moved to Brandon. In 1986, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at Harrys Ukrainian Kitchen. Alice was a member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Oakburn, and in later years at St. Hedwigs and St. Augustines in Brandon. She participated in numerous church activities including the feast of St. Peter and Paul at Oakburn farm church. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting, sewing patch quilts, canning fruit and vegetables for winter use and cooking. Her homemade bread and butter tarts are legendary and are still talked about by her grandchildren. She loved her family: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren equally and unconditionally. Alice treasured the family gatherings like Christmas and weddings when everyone would sit around and sing old Ukrainian songs or Christmas carols. Alice was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1991; daughter Adeline in 2006. Alice was the last survivor of her immediate family of ten. Alice is survived by sons Ed (Natalia) of Brandon, and Lorne (Melvene) of Beausejour; son-in-law Nick Dmyterko of Brandon; grandchildren: Audrey (Gilles), Aaron (Beth), Sharon (Ron), Joan (Gary), Debbie (Dale), Jason (Michelle), and Kent; great-grandchildren: Sarah and Ryan, Heath, Katelyn, Chris, Kevin (fiancé Airdrie), Shaun (Tanya), Craig, Jason and Shane and great great-grandchild Jayenna. Prayers were said at Memories Chapel on Thursday, July 1, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church on Friday, July 2, 2010. Celebrant was Fr. James Ahaneku. Pallbearers were: Aaron Hachkowski, Gilles Johnson, Dale Hersak, Jason Hachkowski, Ron Holleman, and Bob Lepischak. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
