CRAWFORD: The death of Evelyn Roberta Crawford of Brandon, formerly of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, occurred on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the age of 79 years. Evelyn was born at Windsor, Ontario to parents Clarence and Evelyn Grass. She was the daughter of a railroad man and they moved to the prairies at a young age. Evelyn was the oldest child and therefore had the responsibility of helping to care for her younger siblings. She attended school in Brandon and later received her certification in Medical RecordsAdministration. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951. Evelyn met and married the love of her life, George Crawford, in 1956 while posted at CFB Foymont. In 1972, George was posted at Sioux Lookout and Evelyn returned to civilian life finding employment at the Sioux Lookout Zone Hospital as aMedical Clerk. In 1973, she became the Supervisor of the Medical Records Department until her retirement in 1985. She moved back to Brandon and in the late 1980's worked at the Redwood Inn. In 1992, Evelyn and George moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia to enjoy their retirement. Following the death of George, Evelyn moved back to Brandon to be closer to her children. From 1993 until 1996 she did accounting and bookkeeping for the Brandon Community Welcome. Evelyn was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was Ladies Auxiliary President for two terms, later being honoured with a lifetime membership. She also previously held the position of Zone Commander, as well as other local, zone and district positions. Evelyn belonged to the Knox United Church and was a member of the UCW. She enjoyed volunteering for the Legion and other local organizations vents. In herspare time, Evelyn enjoyed many sports, especially curling, hockey, football, fishing, figure skating and horse racing. She was also a passionate baseball fan, specifically for her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. Evelyn will be remembered by her family and friends as a kind and gentle spirit who was caring, compassionate, and who was frequently sought out for her lending ear and sage consel. She treated her friends like family and she took pride in everything she did. Evelyn is survived by: sons Rick (Lucy) Crawford, Lee Crawford; grandchildren: Sacha Baharmand, Troy Crawford, Jessica Crawford, Joshua Crawford. Also surviving are: brother Clancy (Albeth) Grass, brothers- in-law Norman Crawford, Ken Crawford, Percy "Spider" (Georgina) Crawford; sister-in-law Iris Crawford; best friends Anita Stouffer, Marg Atkinson, Carolyn Grift, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by husband George Crawford, daughter Cindy Crawford- Baharmand, sister Marilyn Lange, brother-in-law Daniel Lange and brother-in-law Carl "Campy" Crawford. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Knox United Church, 451 - 18th Street, on Tuesday (today), July 13, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. David Cathcart officiating. Urn bearer is Rick Crawford, and eulogy to be delivered by Sacha Baharmand. Private interment at Brandon Cemetery.
