MAYO: Evelyn Mary Mayo (Parker,) beloved wife of Stuart, passed away June 22, 2010 at BRHC after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Evelyn was born August 15, 1934 on the family homestead in Willen, Manitoba, the only daughter of Cecil and Ruby (Thompson) Parker. Her younger years were spent at Willen, Guelph, Ontario, then to Broomhill where she started school in the old Hathaway School. After a brief year in Drumheller, Alberta the family returned to Melita, where Mom attended school at the old Brown’s School. She was a long standing member of Brown’s 4-H Seed Club where she received many ribbons for the potatoes and flax she grew. She loved being on the farm. She attended the Agricultural School in Brandon and after completion worked as a babysitter/housekeeper, Woolworth’s in Regina and both cafes in Melita. This is where she met the love of her life. She and Stuart were married October 6, 1955 in Melita. Together they resided in Melita, Pipestone, Virden, Brandon and Kemnay. They raised four children: Denise, Linda, Timothy and Terence. Mom was a hard worker all her life. Her motto was “If a job was worth doing, it was worth doing well”. While raising four children she still managed to help out on the farm and her parents farm with any chores that needed done. She milked many a cow, put up preserves, and went berry picking, all of which she enjoyed. In between all this she managed to bake, cook a fantastic meal and alot of times deliver it to the field where for years she helped dad with custom baling. In Virden she worked for home care, meeting many friends who remained good friends for life. Together mom and dad managed the Western Motel in Brandon for a few years and after mom stayed on to clean rooms for quite a long time. She was also employed at The Brandon Sun in the Mail Room for many years. She enjoyed her job at Grey Goose in Brandon which she eventually retired from in 1999. Mom enjoyed horse back riding, especially on her Sheltland “Queenie”, whom she had for nearly 30 years. She enjoyed curling (even getting a few 8 enders), playing cards into the wee hours of the night, dancing, bingo, playing slots at the casinos, camping, and fishing with family and friends. She never missed putting a birthday or anniversary of family and friends on the CKLQ happy line. She enjoyed family get togethers and could always be found in the kitchen cooking up a storm. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Stuart; children: Denise Mayo, Linda Demare, Tim (Shannon) Mayo, Terry (Kathy) Mayo; grandchildren: Letitia Shannon, Rebecca Taggart, Jeffrey (Jolene) Sawatsky, Brittany (Daniel) Sawatsky; Tyler Mayo, Parker Mayo; Matthew Mayo, Jasmine (Pat) Mayo, Darian Myers, and Travis Myers. As the sun shines brightly overheadAnd pain free you can roamTo join our loved ones on the other sideRemember “call when you get home”. ,
