HAKMAN: William "Bill" - beloved husband of Mary and devoted father of Andrew passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the age of 62 years. Bill was born on June 7, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the second child of Michael and Margaret Hakman. Bill grew up in Winnipeg, attending elementary, high school, and university there. After university Bill began working for General Chemical Canada in the calcium chloride division, and held that job for 21 years. After this job ended, Bill took on personal pursuits, and in the process became a "jack of all trades". Bill wasn't afraid to take on any task, and did them all well, from carpentry, to electrical, to plumbing, to mechanical repairs, to servicing his own vehicles. You name it, he would do it. In 1975 Bill met the love of his life Mary. They were married in 1978 and took up residence in Brandon, Manitoba. In 1983 they were blessed with the arrival of their only son, Andrew. Andrew was Bill's pride and joy, and even after Andrew moved to Edmonton to attend university, Bill remained in daily contact with him. Bill and Mary enjoyed traveling, and were fortunate to visit Europe, northern Africa, the South Pacific, Hawaii, and most recently the southern U.S. It was during a recent trip to Edmonton to visit their son, that Bill suffered a heart attack and stroke on June 29, 2010. fought valiantly to stay with us, but lost his battle on July 16, 2010. Bill was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was taken from us far too soon, and has left a huge void in our lives. Bill was predeceased by his parents Michael in 1991 and Margaret in 1975, and by his sister in childhood. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Mary, son Andrew, father-in-law Antony Grzybowski, brother-in-law Zenon (Lynn) Grzybowski, nieces Shannon Grzybowski and Lesley (Joe) Kozun and their children Nicole and Megan.
