MILES: David “Dave” Frederic Miles. The death of Dave Miles occurred on Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with his family by his side. Dave is survived by his wife Gerry; sons Ray and Mike (Bev); daughter Lori (Rob) Pope; grandchildren Emily and Aiden; and sister Nancy (Ted) Risebrow of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his parents Doris and Jack Miles, sister Sharon Gill, and brother Jerry Miles. Dave was born October 20, 1944 in Paris, Ontario, attending elementary and high school there. He joined the Canadian military right after high school and was posted to Shilo, Manitoba. Dave met Gerry while in Shilo and they were married in 1965. After leaving the military, he worked at Pioneer Electric then Inventronics for the next 30 years. After leaving Inventronics, Dave started his own business: “Wheat City Home Inspections”. Dave was very successful and extremely proud of this venture. He was forced to retire in September 2009, because of his health. Over Dave’s 65 years of life he enjoyed a variety of interests. His love of boat building started at the early age of 13 when he built his first boat; Dave would later become a very proficient boat builder handcrafting three boats for his children; the first being a 16 foot cedar strip canoe, followed by a 16 1Ž2 foot touring kayak and a classic row boat. In addition to boats Dave enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes. Dave played hockey throughout his active life and was one of the founding members of the Rob Roy’s Old Timers Hockey Club. Dave was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed many good times and adventures with his best friends Rod and Gary; from fixing the snowmobiles to chopping them out of a frozen pond. Friday night was ‘beer night’ in the garage with his friends and neighbors. One of Dave’s passions was mountain bike riding. Dave was motivated and intrigued by Lance Armstrong and his Live Strong Foundation. Dave lived his remaining days dedicated to the motto “LIVE STRONG”. Keep riding Dave! The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Josh Taylor will officiate. Private interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery. The Urn Bearer will be eldest son Ray Miles, honourary pallbearers will be Rod Atkinson and Gary Denbow.
