ROSS: Mary Ross passed away quietly at the Souris Health Centre on June 13th, 2010 at the age of 91 years old. She is survived by her husband, Cecil William Ross, daughter Carol Ross-Harms (Nelson and family), and son, Bruce Ross (Vanessa and family). Mary was born in Fort William, Ontario in 1918. Being the oldest of five girls, Kay Baglo (Norm) of Trail B.C., Cecilia Christie (Henry predeceased) of Toronto Ontario, Helen Cameron (Michael predeceased) of Kauaii Hawaii, and Martha (predeceased in 1929) life was challenging. Mary was schooled in Detroit Michigan, but re-located to Bunclody District in the early thirties. Her sisters attended school in Bunclody, but Mary went to work for different families in the Elgin district. During WWII factory jobs were in eastern Canada rather than in Manitoba. Mary moved eastward, first to Fort William to work in a munitions factory, and then Toronto to work in the T. Eaton Co. manufacturing overcoats for the Canadian troops. After the war, Mary returned to the Elgin district and married Cecil Ross in 1948. When she wasnt driving her children to music lessons, hockey, baseball or whatever, she was a dedicated 4-H leader, Explorer leader, C.G.I.T. leader, UCW member of the United Church, Sunday school teacher, a member of the Souris School Band Boosters, a creative ceramic maker, and an avid seamstress. Mary filled her life with work and was always taking care of everyone. We will never be able to forget how much she cared about all of us. Her strong will and determination were assets to be admired. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in memory of Mary to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation #304 1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4C6.Kowalchuks Funeral Home, Souris, in care of arrangements. Expression of sympathy may be made at dkowalchuk@mts.net
